Coal miner’s daughter, beloved country star, living legend. Loretta Lynn is all these and more! Not only has her rags-to-riches story—from her hardscrabble childhood in Kentucky, through her marriage to Oliver “Doolittle” Lynn when she was 13, to her dramatic rise to stardom—resonated with fans everywhere, but over the course of her 50-plus year career, she’s given us such classics as “Don’t Come Home A’ Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind),” “Honky Tonk Girl” and “You Ain’t Woman Enough (To Take My Man).”
Part memoir, part scrapbook, Honky Tonk Girl collects—for the first time—the lyrics to Loretta Lynn’s many songs, complete with anecdotes on the person or incident that inspired the song, annotations on the songwriting process (like the pain of reducing “Coal Miner’s Daughter” from 14 verses to 8), her thoughts on her collaborators and more. Longtime fans will particularly enjoy getting a rare look at Lynn’s handwritten lyrics, and at a host of personal photographs included. Giving us deeper insight into her life, her influences and the way she pushed the boundaries of country music, this is a wonderful way to get to know the heart and mind of a truly remarkable woman.

The majority of this book is a reproduction of Loretta's song lyrics. However, there are plenty of great short stories behind the songs; anecdotes from Loretta's life; a wonderful array of rare photographs and previously unreleased lyrics and poems that round out the content. The book is a wonderful buy for anyone who is: a fan of the Coal Miner's Daughter, interested in the history of country music or perhaps a budding writer looking for inspiration. Loretta is an American treasure with an honest heartfelt writing-style all her own. A fact that is repeatedly exemplified throughout 'Honky Tonk Girl: My Life in Lyrics.'

I have been a fan of Loretta Lynn for many years! I enjoyed her songs and the movie
coal miners daughter. My daughter also is a big fan so I bought the book for her for
Mother"s day. I felt bad that her husband cheated on her when she was performing as the movie showed. WE will always love her songs. God Bless Loretta!
