A Date With Death

Raised in upstate New York, Philip Markoff was an all-American boy-next-door, a model student at University at Albany and, later, a top candidate at Boston University’s medical school. He and his college sweetheart were busy planning a summer wedding. His future looked bright—until the night of April 14, 2009, when an Internet masseuse was found dead in her Boston hotel suite. Markoff was her last-known client, but she was not his first victim.

A gripping account that reads like a novel, A Date with Death by Michele R. McPhee traces the secret life and police investigation of the alleged Craigslist Killer, a case that made waves both in the U.S. and abroad over privacy issues in the age of the Internet. Black-and-white photos.

Boring....not worth your time
September 13, 2010

I, too, thought this was going to be a riveting tail and a book that you just couldn't put down, so I was very disappointed with the mundaneness of the whole story. In all actuality, the story itself could have been written in about 12 pages.

don't bother

This book is a waste of your money. Sure, it gives the facts of the case, but it crowds it all out with mundane, seemingly endless, non-relevant gibberish to fill in a book. On the back of the dust jacket it is written "with 8 pages of startling photographs". Pictures of the jail cell, the lawyers invovled, and the police commissioner aren't "startling". The only startling thing about this book was that it was published in the first place. For the record, I purchased this book over the phone when the Literary Guild called me thinking it sounded good. Don't make the same mistake!

the book was very interesting and i like true crime, but this book was so detailed concerning the boston police and their background and the different police forces. that was half the book. if you like that sort of thing, this is the book for you.
