The Host

She’s the #1 bestselling author of the Twilight series. Now Stephenie Meyer offers a new twist on the love triangle—one that involves only two bodies—in The Host, a captivating novel of romance and terror.

The war of the worlds has ended, and we lost. The Earth has been overrun by invading alien intelligences who occupy the bodies of the planet’s inhabitants. But Wanderer, the invading “soul” who has been given Melanie Stryder’s body, has discovered that the former tenant of her body refuses to relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderer’s thoughts with visions of the man she loves—Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body’s desires, Wanderer searches for a man she’s never met....

A friend brought this book to me while I was in the hospital recovering from surgery. At first I thought I knew where the story was going...Wrong.. the story has many twists and suprises. I have read this book several times and am still finding more to the story. It is a MUST READ book and I am waiting, impatiently, for the sequel.I will be forever grateful to my friend for bringing that book to me.

I read this book when it first debut way back when & I 1st thought, it was a bit dry, and then I got into it & couldn't put it down, I have read this book countless times, I've even heard the c.d. version while driv'ng, and this is a book for anyone with a vivid imagination, stephenie puts a twist on the way the aliens take over, and how love is complicated no matter what, she has 2 people in one body & its like b'ng split in 1/2 all the time, but only one can have complete control......I love the characters, I love the old man walter (I cried over him) the bonus chapter that I was able to read recently, puts everything in a different perspective regard'ng melanie & wanda & ian & jared, in a different way........I can't wait for this movie, I can't wait for the sequels...if they'd ever get here..........BUT READ THIS BOOK.......it starts out odd, but once you get into it, you won't put it down.......its nothing that I thought it would be........stephenie meyers is brilliant in so many ways, her idea's & her stories are amaz'ng & can not be out done.........so glad I read this book, bought a new version b/c I gave my 1st version to a friend & thought I'd like to re-read it b4 the movie came out.........only 23 days until the movie debut's & I will be there to watch it, I expect alot of changes, but jared & ian are both hot in the movie so yes....its a given.......

My Review
February 26, 2013

Overall, I enjoyed this book quite a bit. While it certainly has it's weaknesses, it is fairly entertaining and the story is pretty fast paced. Up to this point, I had already read the first two books in the Twilight Saga so was already familiar with Stephenie Meyer's style. I am pleased to say that I felt that her writing and pacing have improved quite a bit with this novel. I liked the two Twilight books that I've read so far, but there were times that I wished that she would just get on with things and move the story along (especially in New Moon.) This novel however seems to move along at a much brisker pace even during the times when not much is actually happening. As I mentioned, there were a few things about the book that I didn't care for as much. Without giving too much away, the descriptions of other places and the names for items throughout the book seem to be very juvenile to me. It's kind of weird, because one of the main things that sets this book above the previous books of hers that I have read is the lack of most of the teenage/juvenile angst, but some of her attempts to add a more science fiction element just fall flat for me and feel very childish. I also don't feel that the overall concept, while pretty interesting in itself, is nearly as fleshed out and involved as the Twilight Series. All that being said, I did like the story quite well. It's not high-brow literature by any means, but is more in the category of what I like to term "comfort food" literature. You don't have to use your brain or stir up your emotions to enjoy it, it's just a fun read that provides an escape from the everyday.

Great Read! Slow start but once you hit Chapter 3 you get into it.

I bought it for myself to read and I could not put it down. Passed it along to my nice to read as well and she will pass it on to someone else. Great read. It just took getting through the first two chapters to really get into it. I cannot wait to see the movie and I really hope they did the book justice.
