The Next Best Thing

Ruthie Saunders was 23 years old four years ago when she drove west with her 70-year-old grandmother and together they shared reveries of an exalted Hollywood writing career. And now she’s hit the jackpot! The sitcom Ruthie poured her heart into, The Next Best Thing, has gotten the go ahead—and she’s going to be in charge. But reality sets in when Ruthie is challenged by self-centered actors, harassed by number-crunching executives and tormented by an unrequited crush on her boss. What’s more, grandma’s getting married!

In The Next Best Thing, bestselling author Jennifer Weiner takes readers on a wild Hollywood roller coaster ride, where our earnest heroine learns what it’s like to love—and lose—in the land where dreams are born.

This was just an OK read
November 03, 2012

This was the first book I've read by this author, not sure if I'll give her another chance. Although, it wasn't bad, the story was never very engaging & at times.. a bit too predictable. There was also some enjoyable humor & the author did succeed in creating some intriguing characters in Ruthie, the two Daves (loved them!) & Ruthie's grandmother. The problem was, she just didn't do enough with them. Based on the story premise, just expected so much more!

I usually enjoy her books but I was disappointed with this one. I stayed with it but it was difficult. Hope her next book is better.

I usually enjoy her books but this one was a disappointment. While I found some parts funny for the most part it was tedious.
