Alexandra Cooper’s latest case takes her to one of the Big Apple’s most glamorous restaurants. However, in vintage Linda Fairstein fashion, Alex won’t have much time to tuck into her meal.
Alex arrives in Mougins, France, to find her beau, renowned restaurateur Luc Rouget, in an ebullient mood. He’s preparing to reopen his father’s storied New York restaurant, and his enthusiasm carries over into the planning for his annual blowout party. After the bash, Alex heads back to Luc’s medieval home—and stumbles upon a neatly stacked pile of human bones. Strangely, Luc seems unperturbed. The next day, a young woman’s body is found in a nearby lake—and a matchbox found in her pocket connects her to Luc.
Back in Manhattan, an unsettled Alex tackles the case of Mohammed Gil-Darsin. The head of the World Economic Bureau stands accused of assaulting a hotel maid. The case makes headlines worldwide, but Alex finds the maid’s story unraveling day by day. Then a young man’s body is fished out of a Brooklyn canal, and the victim is carrying another of Luc’s matchboxes.
Spanning two continents, Night Watch entwines the worlds of politics, business and fine dining into a gripping, intricately plotted mystery.

I'm a big fan of Linda's novels--well-written and suspenseful. I guess the DSK-type plot left me a little cool, but I dealt with it. Some of the NYC/French tidbits were very interesting but I thought she stretched some of the links in her two stories. An OK read and I'll certainly buy her next book, which will hopefully be a little more credible. The ending is great (and the endings of many mysteries are more of after-thoughts).

There were parts of the book that were interesting, but just not that good. I like a book that keeps me reading constantly and not wanting to put down even for a second. I just didn't like the book.

I love anything she writes but this one seemed a little disconnected. Having 2 story lines is more difficult in a book than on t.v. Then add a mystery on 2 continents and you have added confustion.

As usual I really loved this book. I, for one, do enjoy the history lessons regarding the areas for parts of New York and other places where crimes were committed. I am glad that she was in the DA's office defending woman who at times were persona non gratia just because of their career choices. I have read everyone of her books and will continue too.

The two mysteries in the book were good. The one with ties to the US and France were a little far fetched, with Alex connected. I find the character of Alexandra to be unrealistic. She's into EVERYTHING! The author could skip some of the history lessons, but I like the Final Jeopardy. I would recommend this book.
