It was 12 years ago that a young woman named Elizabeth foolishly allowed a seductive man with a Russian accent to lure her away from the nightclub where she’d been drinking in defiance of her controlling mother. The events that followed changed her life forever.
Now, a reclusive woman known as Abigail Lowery lives in a small town in the Ozarks, where she works as a freelance designer of sophisticated security systems. Her personal security involves a fierce dog and an assortment of firearms…fully loaded. Needless to say, Abigail keeps to herself, a situation police chief Brooks Gleason finds intriguing as he wonders what makes this infuriatingly attractive woman tick. Her logical mind, her secretive nature, her unromantic viewpoints only add to her allure. But Brooks’ fascination is frustrated by Abigail’s obvious need for protection. What is the story that she’s gone to such pains to hide?
The Witness has all the ingredients for a top-notch thriller—a quirky, unforgettable heroine, a rugged hero and a riveting plotline. But, as always, #1 bestselling author Nora Roberts kicks it up more than a few notches for a pulse-pounding page-turner impossible to put down…or forget.

Great book. I was actually disappointed when I got to the end. Nora Roberts is one of my favorite authors. I loved Abigail, her spunk, her don't mess with me attitude. Highly recommended.

OMG - this is a standout NR title! I regretted each time I had to temporarily stop reading this novel. NR has caused my electric bill to rise a bit higher as I would read into the night or start again early in the morning. But it didn't matter because the read was just full of mystery, humor, sadness, lonliness, et al, and as a pet owner of two puppies (5 yrs old each - ok - and who owns whom), I loved the constant protection of her fantastic dog (who could understand commands in several languages), which just brought more compassion for our heroine. What a story. Oh, Ms. Roberts, you have such a vast passion for writing. I even wrote (with an apology to my father, who gave me the gift of reading enjoyment, for writing on the pages of a book) on the book's flyleaf as to just how much I loved this book. I shared my copy with several of my co-workers with the absolute understanding that it must be returned to me. I shall read it again to recapture a story of intelligence, courage, humor, mystery, trust and, of course, love. Brava, NR. Thank you.
