When Julie Powell couldn’t stand the heat—in the form of an existentially meaningless job and a looming milestone birthday—she got into the kitchen. In a battered copy of Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Julie found her mission: In one year she would cook all 524 recipes and chronicle the results with unflinching (if frequently foul-mouthed) self-scrutiny—first in a blog, now in this irresistible book.
Powell fights her way through aspics, sweetbreads and 60 pounds of butter; dishes about her friends, coworkers and long-suffering husband and follows Julia’s instructions with affection and attitude, making apocalyptic messes, epic scenes and some delicious discoveries about what it all means.

I am an avid reader, but had a hard time finishing this book. It got rather boring & did not grab my attention. The profanity did not bother me. It was an okay book, but it was obvious that this is the writer's first try at writing. Hope she does better in the future. The movie was ok, but not as good as it was hyped up to be.

I truly believe that if this wasn't the book I chose to take with me en-route from New York to Minneapolis, I would not have finished it. I found the writing style lacking in more ways than I can go into. And the point of the book still escapes me. I read this before seeing the movie, and was amazed to discover that there actually is an instance of a movie that rates higher than the book it's based on.

This was one of the worst books I have ever read! If the movie is as bad I won't be watching it all the way thru. I had to make myself stay with the book hoping it would get better--NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a hard time getting through the book, but once I started reading it I had to keep reading to find out how it turned out. I would have liked it to have had more about Julia and her trials with French cooking. It did however inspire me to get out my own cookbooks, (not French) and vow to try some new recipes. I am going to do my own project.

I'm not bothered by the profanity, it is who she is, I jsut thought the book was way too long. I am an avid reader ( and a wanna be chef), but I just had a hard time getting through this book. It just didn't grab my attention that way I hoped it would. The movie was better than the book, at least it was in my opinion. Opinions vary and I won't tell you not to read it just to be aware. I am almost betting that the blog itself was a better more entertaining read.
