We fell in love with Nicholas Sparks 10 years ago with his debut novel, The Notebook. Since then, he’s touched our hearts again and again with Message in a Bottle, A Walk to Remember and his other bestsellers. Now Sparks returns with the irresistible tale of a man caught between duty to his country and the love of his life.
Growing up in Wilmington, North Carolina, with his distant father, John Tyree has always been a rebel. At 20, lost and angry, John enlists in the Army. But when he comes home on leave, he meets Savannah Curtis and their attraction grows into a deep, powerful love. John longs to settle down with her, and she’s willing to wait for him while he finishes his tour of duty. But on September 11, 2001, everything changes. John feels he must re-enlist, and the couple’s long separation proves a fateful one, as Savannah falls in love with another man. Soon the inevitable “Dear John” letter breaks this soldier’s heart.
When John finally returns home, he struggles to come to grips with the fact that Savannah has a new life, although his feelings for her have not changed. Now he will face the most important and heart-rending decision of his life—and find out what it means to truly love another.

The book was great. It keeps you interested the whole book. I think this book was one of his better books. Not just a mushy love story a good true too life story. Not all butterflies and rainbows and not all dark and depressed. I don't want to give anything away. So that is all I am going to say.

I"ve read most of Nicholas Sparks books and have loved every one. He tells his story in a way that makes you feel like you are part of what's going on in the lives of his characters. This one has a twist I didn't see coming. Loved it!
