Just Too Good To Be True

Black Expressions favorite E. Lynn Harris returns with a big, bold, irresistible novel about football, family, and secrets that will leave you breathless!

Single mother Carmyn Bledsoe has worked her whole life to have the perfect relationship with her son, Brady, devoting herself to him and his dream of becoming a professional football player. For the most part, Brady, now a lead contender for the Heisman Trophy and a spot in the NFL, has been a doting and dutiful son, shining in her good graces. He even joined the church’s “Celibacy Circle” at her request. But now that he’s a college senior, it’s getting more and more difficult for Carmyn to protect her son from looming dangers—including unscrupulous sports agents. Though her biggest fear is cheerleader Barrett, who seems determined to seduce Brady out of his possible future fortune. And Carmyn can’t help but feel the cunning beauty isn’t working alone. Though the thing she’d like most to protect Brady from is the secret she’s kept from him his whole life... As things heat up and Carmyn and Brady’s idyllic relationship starts to crumble, mother and son begin to wonder about the other—are you just too good to be true?

A real story!
February 16, 2010

E. Lynn Harris touched on a subject that is not often discussed...a mother's lies about her past, and the child's desire to know the truth. This is my favorite author, and his ability to draw you into his story is unparallel. I was emotional when I finished reading this story, because NO ONE puts words down like E. Lynn Harris! RIP. You will be missed.

BIG DISSAPOINTMENT!!
December 25, 2009

I was so dissapointed in this book! The story was very predictable & overall written from a seemingly juvenile point of view. Unrealistic, one-note characters, especially Barrett, she was just too stupid! Camryn acted more like the child, than Brady's mother.. so annoying! This was such a waste of time, I found it hard to believe this nonsense was really written by Harris. I haven't read any of his novels for years, his earlier work was far superior to this low-grade garbage! As a result, I am rethinking purchasing his latest book, "Mama Dearest". It is so heartbreaking, when a once (truly) great author settles for so much less than you "know" they're capable of. Lastly, I am sad that we lost this wonderful author, so soon. So, I will still remember him well for those earlier works of true excellence!

I LOVE E LYNN HARRIS MAY HE REST IN PEACE, HOWEVER I COULD HAVE USED MORE ACTION IN HE STORY. DON'T GET ME WRONG THIS WAS A GOOD BOOK BUT IT JUST DIDN'T HAVE THE "I NEED TO TELL SOMEONE ABOUT THIS BOOK" QUALITY THAT MOST ELH BOOKS HAVE
