Misfortune has followed Sarah Crane ever since the death of her mother sent her father into an alcoholic daze. Now he’s in jail and the young teen, left in the care of a mean-spirited foster family, has never felt so alone. Alienated at school as well, the only attention Sarah receives is from another outcast, classmate Nick Dunnigan, and an eccentric art teacher, who gives Sarah painting lessons at her isolated old mansion. But as Sarah spends more time within its crumbling walls, monstrous images from the house’s dark history emerge. Once a prison, it is filled with malevolent ghosts. And as Sarah soon discovers, she and Nick have the power to control them…and take revenge. House of Reckoning is John Saul at his scariest best.

I really enjoyed this book. Wasn't one of his scariest but a great read anyway. Love John Saul books

I have read all of his books. This one I couldn't put down, I read it in 4 days. It was very interesting to me, great reading. As always, I can not wait for his next book.

I agree with the Jeri that the overall theme has been done before. There were a few difference, but the same underlying concept. I was so looking forward to reading the author's latest after being a fan almost as long as he has been publishing. So much more could have been done with the foster portion of the story. It is a take it or leave it read for me.

Didn't think it was one of his best - has been done so many times before - was really disappointed.
