In Joan Medlicott’s new novella, the ladies of Covington, Grace, Hannah and Amelia, make a startling discovery. A cache of letters nestled in a box unearthed by Max, Hannah’s husband, are not only old, they date back to the Civil War era and reveal an astonishing story that holds the women spellbound.
While lying wounded in a ditch, two men from opposing sides become friends, then brothers, in a sense, when they take the name of an elderly woman who hides them for the duration of the war. The letters, never mailed, were a means of coping with the pain each felt upon relinquishing their former lives. But will Amelia’s plan to gather their descendents for a Christmas celebration prove wise? A Blue and Gray Christmas is a holiday gem.

I have never read any books by this author, and will not again. As adult fiction it was boring. It should be labeled as childrens fiction.

I loved this story! It was too short though - I wanted to read more of their letters! Highly recommended!
