One hundred years ago, a ship thought to be indestructible struck an iceberg during its maiden voyage and sunk in the icy waters of the North Atlantic. What happened on that night has haunted and entranced us ever since.
On the 100th anniversary of “the night to remember,” LIFE revisits the human drama surrounding the Titanic—a story of heroism and hubris, romance and recrimination, told in a panorama of words and stunning pictures.
This oversized, deluxe book features archival photography, past reporting in LIFE magazine and accounts of the modern-day explorations of Robert Ballard and others. The book will also include a section on the 3-D treatment of the hugely popular 1997 movie. And there are scores of first-person accounts: the words of survivors, including little-known stories from steerage as well as the well-known drama that occurred above decks. In addition, there are chapter sections that lend valuable context; for example, a history of famous shipwrecks, and where the Titanic fits in the grand picture.
LIFE: Titanic—The Tragedy That Shook the World—One Century Later leaves us with the indelible feeling that the Titanic tragedy is the one we care about, and need to revisit.

I have always been interested in the Titanic as it directly affects my famiily history. This book does a better job than most I have in my library or have seen. For the price it is well worth it.

I read the book cover to cover and enjoyed the captions that told some of the popular pictures were not taken from Titantic. My 9 Year grandson was very interested in the book too. A great addition to my collection. I liked the telling of a book written years before the Titantic sank that is like a foretelling of the accident to come.

I have always been enthralled about Titanic. This coffee table edition book is pictures taken from inside the titanic before it sailed and others from the last resting place of the ship. It is not just a book that will sit but be picked up and read.
I would reccomend this book.

A must for any Titantic fan.

I was not too enthused over this book, in fact I was disappointed. Too large, not enough pictures.
