Jamie Wagner is a young lawyer who is happy to be flying under the radar at a large firm. It’s not that he isn't smart. He is. It's just that hard work, not to mention the whole legal thing, isn’t exactly his passion. Underachiever? Yes. Content? At least until the firm puts him on a case that turns his world upside down.
Sheryl Harrison has served four years of a 30-year sentence for killing her husband, whom she claims was abusive. The case is settled—there shouldn’t be anything for Jamie to do—except Sheryl’s 14 year-old daughter, Karen, is sick. She has a congenital heart defect and will die without a transplant. Her blood type is rare, making their chances of finding a donor remote at best. Sheryl wants to be that donor for her daughter, and Jamie is in way over his head. Suicide, no matter the motive, is illegal. So with Sheryl on suicide watch, Jamie’s only shot at helping her and saving Karen is to reopen the murder case, prove Sheryl’s innocence and get her freed so she can pursue her plan on her own.
Heart of a Killer—a gripping story of an ordinary man faced with an impossible situation—is the most powerful and shocking thriller yet from David Rosenfelt, a true master of the genre.

I've read this author's other books and love them all. This was well-written, suspenseful and kept my interest. Didn't want to put it down.

I hate to be the first person not to like this book but I must rate it now that I finished with it. I had a hard time starting this book and to keep reading it. I would put it down and not pick it back up for a week or two. I forget what I had read so I would start from the beginning. This happened more than a few times. Finally I picked it up and said enough. I will read it every night. I admit that there were parts that I didn't see coming and I kept reading. But when it got boring I put it down. I feel that there were way too many people. This is my first novel by this author so I will give him the benefit of the doubt as I have read that many other readers have read other novels by the same author and have liked them just the same.

This is my first book by David Rosenfelt, and I have to say it was terrific. I can usually guess the endings, but this one took me off guard. Once you start the book, you cannot put it down, it grabs you right away. I'm just disappointed I really did not get a visual of what Jamie might look like, but otherwise the book is solid. I also just ordered and read "On Borrowed Time", and even though it was good also, Heart of a Killer was really better, it kept your "heart" beating until you finally got to the end of the story. You will not be disappointed with this one, its a winner.

Heart of a Killer was my fourth David Rosenfelt book, and I loved all four. I will definitely read every one of his other books.

It did not take me long to read this book, I could not put it down. The style of writing and the flow to the story is masterful. This was my first David Rosenfelt book so I have a lot to catch up on while waiting for his next one.
