It was 12 years ago that a young woman named Elizabeth foolishly allowed a seductive man with a Russian accent to lure her away from the nightclub where she’d been drinking in defiance of her controlling mother. The events that followed changed her life forever.
Now, a reclusive woman known as Abigail Lowery lives in a small town in the Ozarks, where she works as a freelance designer of sophisticated security systems. Her personal security involves a fierce dog and an assortment of firearms…fully loaded. Needless to say, Abigail keeps to herself, a situation police chief Brooks Gleason finds intriguing as he wonders what makes this infuriatingly attractive woman tick. Her logical mind, her secretive nature, her unromantic viewpoints only add to her allure. But Brooks’ fascination is frustrated by Abigail’s obvious need for protection. What is the story that she’s gone to such pains to hide?
The Witness has all the ingredients for a top-notch thriller—a quirky, unforgettable heroine, a rugged hero and a riveting plotline. But, as always, #1 bestselling author Nora Roberts kicks it up more than a few notches for a pulse-pounding page-turner impossible to put down…or forget.

One of Nora's best, hands down! Where can I get me a sexy police chief? The story grabs your heart and blows you away like a hurricane. I couldn't put it down. Loved it!

I loved this book. It is classic Nora at her best. Made me think a little of her Carolina Moon book, which is one of my all-time favorites. After reading dismal reviews of the last 2 major books she did, I'm happy to be able to say that I couldn't put this book down. Lots of dialogue, which made the characters seem more real. Loved it! I know you will, too!
