When you pick up a Catherine Anderson book, you know you’re in for something special. The author of such classic romances as Comanche Moon and Always in My Heart, she has a talent for writing emotionally rich stories peopled by characters of dignity and courage. Lucky Penny is no exception.
Colorado marshal David Paxton is living a good, if quiet, life when a letter from a stranger turns everything upside down. Written by a woman claiming to be his wife—and begging him to come home to help her take care of their young daughter—it leaves him confused. Did he meet Brianna when he was sowing his wild oats in Denver six years ago? It’s possible, so he saddles up, determined to do the right thing.
Impoverished Brianna O’Keefe is more than shocked when David shows up. After all, she had made up an imaginary husband—complete with pretend letters—to protect herself and her niece from unwanted attention. But what really stuns her is that David is truly convinced that the young girl is his, despite her attempts to tell him otherwise. Now he wants to marry her for real. She most assuredly does not. The stage is set. An irresistible force is about to meet an immovable object…and sparks are gonna fly!

I do believe the author packed in just about every homespun metaphor and downhome adjective there is, and then threw in a few of her own. Fortunately, once you get past the excess verbiage of the first few chapters, a truly wonderful, unforgetable, and heart warming love story unfolds, with plenty of laugh-out-loud interaction between the two main characters.

I really enjoyed this book. Seems like it had everything. Liked the relationship with the little girl. I usually like all of Catherine Andersons books but this is extra special. I would think it would be on New York Times list.
