A woman running a prestigious London auction house? Preposterous! But that is exactly what Emma Fairbourne intends to do when her father dies, leaving her the reins of his fabulous enterprise. Of course, she knows she can’t do this openly, so she sets about hiring a front man to do her bidding….
All would have proceeded smoothly in Madeline Hunter’s The Surrender of Miss Fairbourne if it weren’t for the maddening interference of Darius, the arrogant Earl of Southwaite. The “silent partner” of Emma’s father, he wants to sell the auction house. And though she finds him irresistible, she’s immovable. A clash is in the making—a war of wits and wills that will teach them both that, sometimes, surrender brings the sweetest victory.

I purchased this book because the description sounded interesting. However, I found the story to be to long and drawn out. So long and drawn out that it took me over two weeks to finish. Not one of Ms. Hunter's best. I was disappointed.
